Strategically located in the heart of the Midwest, the Washington University in St. Louis Enabling Planetary Investigation Center (WashU-EPIC) houses a suite of state-of-the-art instruments dedicated to the analysis of NASA-returned samples, including Apollo, Stardust, Genesis, and OSIRIS-REx samples, as well as chondritic, lunar, and martian meteorites. We also conduct laboratory experiments under controlled conditions to simulate planetary environments, such as on the Moon and Mars. Our center boasts a wealth of institutional knowledge and expertise in the origins of solar system formation and planetary formation, carried out by a diverse, multi-generational group of scientists specializing in planetary material analysis and laboratory experiments, including mineralogists, petrologists, spectroscopists, and geochemists.
